Press Release

We are pleased to announce our participation in this year's Editions / Artist's Book Fair, the premier art fair for new contemporary art editions during New York City's Print Week. A highlight of our booth will be the premier of our new artist publication with artist Elin Rødseth.

Wayfarers (2015) is a suite of 9 color woodcuts, with hand-pressed monotype additions. In this new series Rodseth has expanded the wallpaper details found in earlier works to an actual wallpaper scale. The deep blue hue of the scenery recall the painted patterns of Chinese porcelain and later Delftware designs from Europe. Within this landscape the artist has placed the faceless strangers that populate her work. Like her past series "Passersby" and "Bystanders" these figures are only vaguely familiar and approachable to us. As the title and scenery imply, they seem to be traveling somewhere, but to where or why is up for interpretation. In this same way, the repetition of the wallpaper pattern allows viewers to combine some of the panels into alternate locations, giving the work more than a single image.

Elin's work will also be included in the National Museum of Oslo's upcoming exhibition "Impressions: Five Centuries of Woodcuts." The exhibition will run from November 6 - January 24th, 2016.
We will also present several works by Takuji Hamanka. Trained as master woodblock printmaker in Tokyo, Hamanka now lives in New York where he makes highly detailed collages that combine Japanese woodcut printing techniques with multiple layers of Gampi paper to create delicate patterns with a fluid sensibility.

Hamanaka was recently included in the wonderful book "Japanese Woodblock Print Workshop : A Modern Guide to the Ancient Art of Mokuhanga" by April Vollmer. The artist is also currently included in the exhibition "Translations" at the St. Josephs College Council for the Arts in Brooklyn, NY.
We will also have available a selection of editions by Richard Bosman, Ken Price and Alan Shields.

The art fair schedule is as follows:

Thursday November 5th: First View Opening Party, 6-9 PM
Friday November 6th: 11 AM - 7 PM, free to the public
Saturday November 7th: 11 AM - 7 PM, free to the public
Sunday November 8th: 11 AM - 5 PM, free to the public
